Uncontested divorce, done correctly the first time
When you and your spouse mostly agree, the risk is not the fight; it is a separation agreement that leaves something out. A careful attorney keeps a simple divorce simple.

When uncontested makes sense
An uncontested divorce works best when both spouses agree on how to divide property and debt, whether maintenance will be paid, and how parenting will work. Even then, details like retirement account division, tax treatment and the wording of a parenting plan can cause problems years later if they are written loosely.
What Attorney Liken prepares
He represents one spouse and prepares the separation agreement, parenting plan and financial paperwork for both of you to review. The other spouse is free to have their own lawyer review the documents, and the firm encourages it.
Hearing or no hearing
In many agreed Colorado cases the court can enter a decree based on the written agreement and affidavits without a full hearing. Whether your court will require an appearance is something the firm confirms for your county.
Common questions
Can one lawyer handle an uncontested divorce for both of us?
No. A lawyer can represent only one spouse. The firm can represent one of you and prepare documents for both to review.
Is uncontested divorce faster?
It can be. The 91-day waiting period described in Colorado Judicial Branch instructions still applies, but an agreed case usually avoids months of litigation after that.
